Sail in Comfort on a Spacious Catamaran

Our Nautitech 40 catamaran is well-equipped and ideal for your sailing and hiking experience. It features 4 double cabins, 2 shared bathrooms (one in each hull), and ample space on board. The catamaran is also equipped with a motor tender, kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, and scuba-diving equipment. It accommodates up to eight people comfortably, and is captained by an attentive and experienced skipper and hiking guide.

Meals

You will have time at the beginning of the voyage to shop for groceries. If you have booked a private group tour, your catamaran will be stocked in advance. Meal preparation will be a collaborative effort among guests, with the option to dine in local tavernas, depending on location (please see the daily itinerary below). It is customary for the group to cover the skipper’s evening meals on land: he will often guide you to the best taverns at reasonable prices. Expect to pay around €20-25 per person for a dinner in a taverna, including local wine or beer.

your detailed travel plan for Exploring the Islands of Odysseus

Day 1: Arrival and Setting Sail

Today, you’ll meet the group at Athens Airport before heading west towards Astakos. The journey takes you across the Corinth Canal and over the Rio–Antirrio Bridge, with time to stop along the way and pick up provisions for the days ahead. Once aboard, you’ll sail towards Marathias Bay or the wild, uninhabited island of Drakonera, where you’ll spend your first night at anchor in a secluded cove.

Day 2: Kastos and a Sunset Hike

You’ll sail to Kastos this morning, with time for a swim in the beautiful waters of Diamant Bay before going ashore later in the afternoon. From there, a hike takes you over Halkierimi Hill to the summit of Poros, covering around 10 km in approximately 2 hours 50 minutes, with 257 metres of ascent. Back in Kastos, you’ll round off the day with dinner at the island’s much-loved Windmill Taverna.

Day 3: Sailing to Kalamos

You’ll spend the day sailing towards Kalamos, stopping along the way for a swim at Asprogiali Beach or among the striking rock formations of Episkopi. You’ll arrive at the port in the evening, with time to pick up a few supplies in the village before settling down for a convivial dinner at George’s taverna. George is the captain and owner of the taverna, as well as one of the island’s best-known local characters.

Plage Ithaki 2

Day 4: Kalamos and the Mycenaean Past

Leaving Kalamos village, today’s hike takes you into the green foothills of Mount Vouni, with Agia Paraskevi chapel and the Mycenaean stronghold of Psilokastro, also known as Xylokastro, along the way. Built from massive stones, the ancient fortress commands impressive views across the western coast of mainland Greece. The route covers 13 km, with around five hours of walking and 670 metres of ascent.

Day 5: Ithaca and Island Wildlife

You’ll make your way towards Ithaca, the legendary home of Odysseus, stopping first at tiny Formicula, an islet with sea caves that are sometimes used as a refuge by Mediterranean monk seals. Continuing on to Meganisi, you’ll pass beneath the cliffs of Papagorges before reaching Vathy, the island’s capital. The evening is yours to enjoy the harbour tavernas, with time to browse the shops and perhaps pick up a few souvenirs.

Day 6: Coastal Ithaca and Sunset Views

Today’s walk follows the coast from Vathy to Agios Andreas chapel and on to Gidaki, one of Ithaca’s most beautiful beaches. The 15 km route takes around four hours, with 380 metres of ascent, and stays close to the cliffs overlooking the sea. If you return early enough, there’s also the option of hiring scooters and riding out to the Araklis Menhir, where the views across Vathy Bay are particularly spectacular as the sun goes down.

Day 7: Return to Astakos

Your final day at sea begins with a morning sail to the charming village of Kioni, where you’ll stop for lunch. You’ll then continue across to Astakos, where you’ll enjoy a final evening together on board.

Day 8: The Voyage Onwards

Today you’ll disembark in Astakos before transferring to Athens Airport, taking with you memories of your voyage and walks in the footsteps of Odysseus.

Not included
  • Port fees (€50.00 per person), payable in cash to the skipper at boarding for port, electricity, water, and various charter expenses during the cruise.
  • Dinners (at tavernas or option to cook onboard).
  • Optional trip extensions.
